Learn how to embroider, like most other textile arts, embroidery is related to sewing, which makes it ideal for someone who is either already good with a needle or someone just getting started that wants to do something a little different and a bit more detailed than stitching. The basic difference is you create a design onto a single piece of fabric.

You can find embroidery kits practically everywhere nowadays so grab one and try them out!

To start embroidering, you’ll need the following items: embroidery hoop; small sharp scissors; embroidery floss; embroidery needles; water soluble marker; whatever tissue you like.

Photography in the fall

There’s a reason autumn is the best time of year to photograph, fall foliage!

Photography is a complicated hobby to learn, so make sure you’re prepared to spend a little time familiarizing yourself with settings on your camera.

In addition to the quality of the camera making the difference, the secret is in the eye behind the camera.

Let’s give you some tips to have the perfect photographs:

1 – Take macro photos, is usually done with a lens that magnifies the object. Like for example leaves and pinecones.

2 – Take outdoor portraits, the colored trees make an excellent setting for a family or couple’s portrait session.

What to wear to the photo shoot? Yellow mustard, different shades of brown and beige, dark purple or orange.

3 – Take advantage of the autumn foliage to do a photo session with your pet, make the most out of the location by capturing your pet playing with the fallen leaves.

4 – Choose the best light, photographers like to shoot in the late afternoon, the golden hour. The light is not very intense, so you need to use the right camera settings and a tripod.

Get gardening

Gardening has been proven to relieve stress.

You don’t need a green big area to get started, if space is small, set up a few pots loaded with healthy vegetables. This hobby will have you appreciate food in a different way.

Autumn is actually great time to start preparing your garden for winter and there’s plenty to do.

There are lots of veggies that grow well in autumn. Try planting some season veggies such as baby leaf spinach, silverbeet, onions, spring onions, kale, broad beans, cauliflower or lettuce. In the garden plant rose bushes, lilies, daffodils, tulips, carnations.

Learn how to put together your gardening tools starter kit: rake, shovel, watering can, spray bottle, scissors, tying strings, gloves, containers, organic substrate and seeds to plant.

Remodel and paint old furniture

Why not up-cycle a piece of furniture that looks a bit out-dated? All it takes is a little imagination and a few simple tools to repurpose old to new, saving money and saving waste. It’s surprising how a lick of paint, some new tissue or a simple sanding can transform a household item.

Spend a Whole Afternoon at a Coffee Shop

This is one of those fall activities to save for days when the rain falls and it’s too chilly to go outside. Commandeer a table at your favorite coffee shop, order a cozy beverage, and kick back with a good book or a good music.

Some reasons to choose this hobby are:

1 – There are still people that do not have access to wifi at home. You can sit in a coffee shop and enjoy access to the internet free as well as food and drink as needed.

2 – You want somewhere to work that is not as quiet as a library and if you need to talk on the phone regularly or have a meeting, coffee is the best spot.

3 – If you are a regular, you will feel almost at home in the coffee shop.

The warm smells of coffee, tea, cakes are very welcoming.
